Swiss rider Mauro Schmid (Jayco AlUla) won Stage 13 of the Tour de France on Friday July 17, out-sprinting Colombian Harold Tejada (Astana) after a two-man finish in Belfort. The 205 km stage from Dole to Belfort was the race's longest and featured an early 57-rider move that built a lead of more than eight minutes. Schmid and Tejada broke clear of a leading 10-rider group with 16 kilometers to go; Schmid attacked at the end of the descent and Tejada launched first in the final sprint but Schmid pipped him to the line. Briton Tom Pidcock finished third, two seconds back, claimed four bonus seconds and jumped six places in the general classification, moving to within 4 minutes 15 seconds of race leader Tadej Pogacar and nine seconds behind Remco Evenepoel for the final podium spot. The peloton crossed 7 minutes 32 seconds after the winner. Earlier in the stage Jasper Philipsen beat Mads Pedersen at an intermediate sprint but remained 41 points behind Pedersen in the green jersey competition.
