Water UK warns there’s not enough water for datacentre plans
The UK will not have enough water for future datacentres. England faces 5bn litre a day shortfall for public water supplies. A trillion litres of water a year lost to leaks. Widespread hosepipe bans. No national grid for water. Poor infrastructure. No national plan.
Can we just have the water and forget the AI?
And this is why we need a ban on data center construction in this country.
Yeah we in Scotland know damn well where England intends to steal water from.
Another reason why the democracy denier Burnham has instantly ruled out a referendum on Scottish independence, despite the overwhelmingly independence majority in Holyrood as recently as May. Water, along with our cheap renewable energy & historic oil and gas reserves means that 🏴 is too valuable.
That's why they trying to build them all up north. 24 in Scotland which will use 1.5 x the power we use at peak rates, daily. We've lost our minds to the Tech fash from silly clown valley.
Why are we planning ANY data centres? They don't provide jobs, their value is questionable and they just drain infrastructure.
I have a solution. *Don't build the sodding datacentres.* Have all the people in power lost the plot?
Literally every single person on here who takes an anti-anti-datacentre perspective on this has kind of failed to explain to me what is so bad about the prospect of us just not building any more of them.
But the AI bros keep telling me that water usage is not a problem. The officials must be lying.
Fortunately, between OpenAI’s advertising shortfall and the first SpaceX lockup period coming to an end on 6th August, along with various banks bundling their exposure, and various of the “Magnificent Seven” selling off parts of their stakes in Data Centres, those data certainly may be cancelled
How the fuck are we supposed to make our Vimto with no fucking water??
I’ll rewrite the headline for them: not enough water for people if Data Centres built
We are losing out on water for our gardens because of data centres.
Water. Why on EARTH some Scots don't want Scottish Independence, is beyond me. It's almost like they ENJOY being skint and troubled. There's more water in just Loch Ness, than every Lake in England, put together. All of them.
Yet I’m sure that app’s for these AI/DC’s will be approv. by muni/regional districts b/c they tell their constituents they bring tax revs/jobs. Nothing could be further than the truth. They’re digital locusts who’ll consume everything, with no regard for life. #TheMachinesRise #TechBillionaires
Any policy that gives water to AI in preference to people is utterly flawed. www.techradar.com/pro/uk-ai-da...
Water is life. A.I. is some expensive wet dream for emotionally lacking wealthy incels and will only give us unemployment, mass surveillance and horrendous weapons. It has no appreciable good effect on our lives.
Brilliant. Copilot? Please give me some fresh water? "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that."
Yep, sounds pretty much like how previous gov't "planning" has gone- Emergency plans for PPE in a pandemic? Nah. Plans for what do to once we have left the EU? Nah. Plans to stop building on floodplains? Nah. The list goes on and on. Planning is a dirty word in gov't. #votegreen
Where "utterly flawed" also means omnicidal.
It should be up to those businesses planning these "developments" to be honest about their resource use, not councils.
You mean an "Existential Threat." The tech broligarchy and their toys must all be eviscerated without mercy. It is a survival imperative.
'The UK will not have enough water for future datacentres, the water industry has said in stark criticism of the government’s AI growth plans.' 1/2
Also there should be no 'water industry', just 'water'. Without it, after three days we die. It's not an industrial for-profit plaything.
Yeah, but who cares about being thirsty and crops dying when people can draft emails 10 seconds quicker...
