On Black Women’s Equal Pay Day advocates highlighted that Black women earn just 65 cents for every dollar paid to non-Hispanic white men, calling the shortfall "lost wages" with lifelong consequences for wealth, homeownership, and retirement security. 9to5 released a zine, Let’s Talk About Civic Engagement, as part of a pocket-guide series that also includes Let’s Talk About the Pay Gap and Let’s Talk About Workplace Harassment. The group said Black women face one of the largest wage gaps, and that Black women’s unemployment rates are double the national average. 9to5 urged concrete civic actions, register and check registration, review ballots, find polling places, request mail-in ballots, call legislators and volunteers, and pointed to tools such as Five Calls that provide scripts and make contacting representatives easier. The organization framed sustained civic engagement beyond voting as the path to elect representatives and press for policy changes to close the pay gap and protect Black women’s labor rights.
