NJ says software error registered roughly 6,600 non‑citizens to vote
The Trump Department of Justice (DOJ) opened a federal probe Tuesday into New Jersey’s voter registration software failure and said it will use the disclosure as “an additional basis” to demand the state’s unredacted voter rolls, including sensitive data. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...
The system allowed 6,600 ineligible people to register. The state of NJ has a total of 6.7 million registered voters. Do the math. This error amounts to less than 0.1 percent of the entire NJ electorate. It should not have happened. But it is NOT even close to having any effect whatsoever.
6,000 or so non eligible voters were erroneously registered…a few hundred actually voted. “Gentlemen, start your conspiracy engines!”
I think we need to investigate 2024 election then... If our elections are so full of fraud and cheating.
Seems like the only thing the trump administration is capable of is destruction and cheating at the polls.
They are relentless in their election coup.
@marcelias.bsky.social clean up on aisle 10!!
“The error was discovered and corrected in 2024, while Philip D. Murphy was governor, but never publicly disclosed, Ms. Sherrill said.” www.nytimes.com/2026/07/21/n...
Oh my. Now cue the MAGA horde going "See? We TOLD YOU noncitizens were voting!" What a mess.
Problem identified. Problem fixed. Nothing that impacted the election.
In the 2024 U.S. presidential election, New Jersey voters chose Kamala Harris with 2,220,713 votes 52% and Donald Trump with 1,968,215 votes 46.%. Let's give the all to trump and take them from Harris. 2,220,313 Harris 1,968,615 trump Trump still loses. He needed 126,000 plus illegal votes to win.
Most importantly, did enough noncitizens vote in ANY election so that, IF they had all voted for the same candidate, it could have changed the results? IOW, were any races decided by fewer than the number of non-citizens who voted in that race? If not, doesn't seem worth freaking out about
Keep feeding the sophistry. No election was ever altered by any non-citizen voting.
and THEY caught it and fixed it.
BREAKING: More than 6,000 non-citizens were added to New Jersey’s voter rolls due to a software error, Gov. Mikie Sherrill says, with “fewer than 400” of them casting ballots in various elections since 2023.
So .005% of registered voters in the state.
Greeeeeaaaattttt, fuel for the fire of Trump and Johnson pushing their poll tax
It was an error. They caught it. This is exactly how election oversight is supposed to work.
Just the narrative the GOP needs to hear. Great! 😩
My first thought is that the Republicans created the error. Especially since non citizens wouldn't bother to register to vote.
Sounds like NJ has a Republican saboteur.
www.nytimes.com/2026/07/21/n... Roughly 400 noncitizens voted in New Jersey after about 6,600 residents were improperly registered to vote between June 2023 and June 2024 because of a software error at the Department of Motor Vehicles, Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced on Tuesday.😵💫
Sure unfortunate to see it will play right into the Republicans propaganda machine!
Oh brother, Rethuglicans going to have a hay day with this news😩 Maybe she should have waited to share that news like they would have done! Are we sure she’s a Democrat?
Michigan found 15 in the last election who voted or tried to vote illegally and 13 were prosecuted. When the GOP screeches about stolen elections, though, this is nothing at all. It was an insignificant 0.00028% of more than 5.7 million total ballots cast. Hardly a reason to destroy voting rights!
I'm feeling like she may give up the voter rolls, just saying... Shrinking violets won't get watered in 2028. If she thinks this will get her down the yellow brick road and on her way to the WH, throwing her own party under the bus won't do the trick! She better sleep now that dream's over!
What party did they vote for?
I believe we had the same thing happen in Oregon. There were 118.....there is an investigation into 13 that voted due to the error. It’s illegal in Oregon to vote as a noncitizen — even if you received a ballot through no fault of your own.
