EU fines Google €890M for breaching the Digital Markets Act
⚠️ We have fined Google €890 million for breaching the Digital Markets Act, by promoting their own services and restricting customer access to alternatives on Google Search and Google Play. More information: link.europa.eu/vrNJTx
And now the same for Meta, MS and all the others for breaking privacy protection, stealing content for the AI slop no one want etc. Don't fall for US 🤮
Would be a lot cooler if you fined them for monopolizing Android and turning it more and more closed source... 3rd party Android distros will be effectively useless in the EU in probably a year thanks to Google Play Integrity (MAY still be hope for Graphene as they have an OEM partner lined up)
2024 Google services had a revenue of 84 billion, ~100 times more than the fine. And only services not Alphabet as a whole. If breaking the law has such small penalty is more a tax than a fine. Which is lame, criminals are free by having enough money.
890m per year for how.many years? Google is.worth 4 trillion dollars apparently. This is less than 0.25% of thier value. Sure it's a lot of money but they made so so much more than that from thier illegal behavior. Make them pay back illgotten revenue and fine them on top
Now tax digital services in Europe and hold all digital services providers accountable for the content on their platforms!
@ec.europa.eu this is more than what google made in profits off these illegal practices, right? right?? Do more. Force them to keep users in control of their devices and make them stop spying on us! Fine them out of the EU if needed
EU fines Google €890m for competition breaches over search and apps
The company is worth 4.5 trillion. So this really doesn't matter at all. It's 0.022 percent of their total net worth.
Good start, but not enough.
Just a mere drop Google advertising revenue (including search, Youtube and Google Network) reached $81.6bn in the three months to 30 June. CEO Sundar Pichai said: "Our popular AI features are driving Search query growth" www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/bus...
