Commonwealth Games opening, King Charles emerges from TARDIS in Glasgow
I suspect that the reason the Commonwealth Games isn't being shown live is that Scotland doesn't have its own national broadcaster. The BBC refused to show the Glasgow games but will show London's Diamond League Athletics. A successful games boosts Glasgow & boosts Scotland. They can't screen that!
BBC showing Scots, they don't care about BRITAIN, never mind Scotland.
IT20 cricket all over STV
It's actually an international celebration of nations that have or are wanting to reclaim their national sovereignty and become Independent countries. They've come to Scotland to support us as we're next on the list.
BBC Scotland is literally 100m from this building on the other side of the Clyde.
This issue should be covered by BBC Your Voice.
I’m watching the swimming here in Australia. They’re showing the Backstroke Heats at the moment.
Does The King coming out of a TARDIS to open the Commonwealth Games imply a British Monarchy canon where he is merely the latest regeneration of The Queen?
What’s nice about this conceit is that this *is* what is implied by the idea of a monarchy, but we pretend it’s not a fantastical concept that would be a faintly ridiculous but amusing idea in fiction.
Time and Royal Descent in Space
Having a King Charles associated not only with the Commonwealth, but also a long-running institution in limbo for a few years, maybe might want to rethink that one.
No, because he’s clearly Kamelion still working the royal disguises, and the new doctor is actually Camilla.
Yep. It’s a timey-wimey royally-woyally thing.
Flying close to 'The royal family are Silurian' territory there :)
Sylvester McCoy is The Doctor! (Again) Delightful to see the 7th Doctor back in action this evening with the King and a global audience potentially larger than anything from his original run. #DoctorWho #CommonwealthGames
And here's the almost full sketch with Sylvester's cameo - it cuts off before we see the other Doctors. (Probably because that's Channel 5's bit) #DoctorWho youtu.be/VsGwZlKuhUM?...
What even Greatest Show in the Galaxy Part Four?
Must admit I missed it!
That’s left field Where’s Capaldi? #God Sorry Tennant
Jesus, how much did it cost to transport the royal couple by Tardis? And what a waste of a time machine to just use its distance function. Time for revolution. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/articl...
Yeah. We could have got any king or queen from any era. Lame. They could have had Henry VIII or Penda, the last Pagan King of England, or Elvis.
They came from a dystopian future where only cloned members of the Royal Families of Europe are alive and waging eternal war on each other.
The Glasgow Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony had a peak of 950k on Channel 5 on Thursday night. For Birmingham 2022, when it was on BBC One, it had a peak of 5.2 million.
50k watched the Opening Ceremony on TNT Sports 2, which makes me wonder what the viewing figures are going to be on an average day.
I'd completely forgotten Channel 5 was a thing tbh
Yes, it’s cut back and smaller, publicity is almost nil, but there’s no way I’m paying £27pm on a 12 month contract, on the existing HBO £4.99 (the family insisted on) for TNT. Might’ve picked up some Scot’s Gaelic by the end of it as a bonus I guess?
Channel 5 cut to commercials during the parade of nations so changed over to BBC Alba.
Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony had a peak of 9 million for Glasgow 2014. Last night’s Opening Ceremony only had a tenth of that.
It was wonderful to watch last night, but the almost zero publicity and that it wasn’t on the BBC felt very strange. Almost like they didn’t want anyone to watch it. And a highlights show at 10.30pm?! Insane!
Rocked up at Glasgow only to find Dane Slaughtering has, yet again, been excluded from the Commonwealth Games. Slightly miffed tbh.
As a consolation I believe that Mercian tossing is being reintroduced at the next games.
So sorry. Will campaign for its inclusion.
You might want to try cricket instead. Smacking about little balls, pretending them to be the skulls of your enemies....
Cheer up Wulfie. Come here. You can murder a bacon sandwich. If it's Danish bacon, technically...
What Have The Danes Ever Done For Us?
A Swede might but a 'Norwegian Would'.
I wasn’t at all interested in the Commonwealth Games until:
Come back when it's a Caramel Wafer.
Apparently the Commonwealth Games have just started. This isn't a 'I'm doing a post about how I don't care about something' but I do find it remarkable that I didn't even register that the Games were happening until seeing a couple of mentions today online.
I only found out when my work colleague showed me how they defiled the TARDIS 😄
Same. Times sure have changed!
Do you live in Victoria? The Age is pumping hard on the We Wuz Robbed pedal.
I’m already an expert in bowls 😆
I found out just now, by reading your post!
TNT destroy interest in sport. Would prob watch if on the bbc
Pretty certain the Commonwealth Games used to be on normal tv! Only place showing it live is TNT! BBC, ITV you outrageous bastards!
They got outbid. TNT were prepared to pay way more than BBC could justify for the rights. There are highlights on Ch5 each evening.
If TNTs coverage of The Ashes is anything to go by they won't have it long.
Blame the government (probably the tory one)
C5 highlights, some nightly coverage on BBC Alba. This one's a box tick before it's held in India in 2030.
