Maxence Lacroix set to join Chelsea from Crystal Palace

Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign France centre-back Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace, with the 26-year-old due to undergo a medical before signing a long-term contract reportedly running until 2032. The agreement was negotiated at ownership level and personal terms are not believed to be an issue. Lacroix made 55 appearances as Crystal Palace won the UEFA Conference League and the Community Shield under Oliver Glasner, and he featured three times for France at the 2026 World Cup, including starts against Norway and England in the third-place play-off. Palace signed Lacroix from Wolfsburg in August 2024 for an initial £15.5m plus potential add-ons; Chelsea have targeted him after two strong Premier League seasons. During 2025-26 Lacroix was the only player to record at least 50 tackles (60), 200 duels won (204) and 250 clearances (252), and he ranked among the five fastest centre-backs in the league with a top speed of 35.81 km/h. Lacroix is tactically versatile, comfortable in both a back four and a back three, and Palace are exploring replacements including Chrislain Matsima and options such as Chibuike Nwaiwu.

If that's the fee we've agreed at I'll be very disappointed. Yes it's significant profit but that's an absolute steal compared to some of the deals already completed this summer. 26 years old, 3 years left on his contract. Gutting. And even more so considering the buying club.
