A 15-game winning streak lifted the Boston Red Sox to 52-49 and into an American League wild-card spot, turning a season that began 12-25 at home into a run that included 11 wins in their last 14 Fenway games. Since June 25 the club has gone 20-3, a surge credited to improved starting pitching, pristine defense and more timely offense, and interim manager Chad Tracy said the streak revealed a new team identity grounded in better at-bats, starts and bullpen work. The Red Sox shifted toward small-ball during the run, recording 11 stolen bases, eight sacrifice bunts and six sacrifice flies over the 15 games versus 11 bunts and 23 sacrifice flies in the previous 85 games. That strategic change was visible in a doubleheader game against the Tampa Bay Rays when Jarren Duran’s two-run single was followed by back-to-back bunt singles by Carlos Narváez and Tsung-Che Cheng. The streak has prompted the front office to consider upgrading the roster before the Aug. 3 trade deadline, with reporting from Bob Nightengale saying Boston now plans to be aggressive and has eyes on shortstop CJ Abrams and catcher Shea Langeliers. The run’s concrete impact is clear: the club’s performance since late June has moved Boston into contention and increased pressure on leadership to make deadline additions that preserve the identity that produced the streak.
