Leclerc fastest in Hungary practice; Aston Martin suspension failure

Charles Leclerc set the pace in FP1 at the Hungaroring with a 1:19.075 lap, 0.484 seconds clear of Red Bull's Max Verstappen, while Lewis Hamilton was third. Ferrari stopped Leclerc early when his car suffered a failure and ground to a halt in the pit lane. Aston Martin's new package showed "promising results" overall, but Lance Stroll spun at Turn Three when his left rear suspension appeared to break with about 20 minutes remaining. Fernando Alonso was 13th, 2.475 seconds off Leclerc, a notable improvement from the roughly four-second gap Aston Martin has seen this season. Team technical director Adrian Newey said the car is very new with a changed chassis and weight reductions requiring FIA re-homologation and that the suspension area involved had not been altered, calling the failure unexpected and under investigation. Honda will bring an upgraded power unit to the Dutch Grand Prix after the four-week summer break.
