At San Diego Comic-Con Marvel debuted a new poster for Avengers: Doomsday and an exclusive Hall H sizzle reel, and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed Ryan Gosling will play Ghost Rider. Gosling had expressed interest in the role since 2022 and Feige said he wanted to find a place for him in the MCU. Shawn Levy will direct a standalone Ghost Rider feature set after Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for 2028. Marvel regained the film rights to Ghost Rider in 2013; the character previously headlined Columbia Pictures films in 2007 and 2012 with Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze and appeared on television in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Robbie Reyes, played by Gabriel Luna. Ghost Rider first debuted in Marvel Spotlight #5 in 1972 and was created by Roy Thomas, Gary Friedrich, and Mike Ploog. The announcements place Ghost Rider back on track for a theatrical MCU entry following the new Avengers build-up at SDCC.
