Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling after his mother, 57-year-old Mia Bieniemy, was found with multiple gunshot wounds Sunday night at the family home in Ashburn, Virginia, Loudoun County authorities said. Mia Bieniemy was transported to a hospital and was in stable condition Monday. Deputies responded late Sunday to the shooting at the couple's Virginia home that the Bieniemys maintained from Eric Bieniemy’s time with the Washington Commanders. Elijah Bieniemy is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. Eric Bieniemy was with the Kansas City Chiefs for practice in St Joseph, Missouri, earlier Sunday and did not attend Monday’s closed workout; the team said it was aware of the incident and offered no further comment, saying its thoughts and prayers are with the family. The Guardian notes Bieniemy returned to the Chiefs this season as offensive coordinator after stops with the Commanders, UCLA and the Chicago Bears and previously helped the Chiefs reach three Super Bowls and win two while on Andy Reid’s staff. The Chiefs are off Tuesday and scheduled their first full-squad workout at Missouri Western State University on Wednesday.
