The July full Buck Moon reaches peak illumination on July 29, 2026 at 10:36 a.m. Eastern Time, rising in the east and remaining visibly full before and after that moment, The Old Farmer’s Almanac and CNN report. Observers in the Northern Hemisphere will see the Moon low in the sky while those in the Southern Hemisphere will see it higher but not as high as June’s full moon, EarthSky notes. Sky conditions in the Northeast and Upper Midwest may tint the Moon reddish or orange because smoke from Canadian wildfires is scattering light, Pamela Gay of the Planetary Science Institute said. The name Buck Moon reflects the period when male deer grow new antlers; the Dakota call it the moon when chokecherries are ripe and the Cree call it the feather moulting moon, per The Old Farmer’s Almanac. NASA’s Noah Petro connected casual sky-watching to recent space missions, citing Artemis II and noting the Buck Moon arrives days after the 57th anniversary of Apollo 11. The Farmers’ Almanac lists five more full moons in 2026 and says November and December will produce supermoons when the satellite is closest to Earth.

Last night in Nova Scotia under a full “Buck” moon . It’s been a wonderfully relaxing trip full of gorgeous scenery, meeting up with good friends and a lot of one-on-one time with James. I am really looking forward to seeing my beloved Chester again. I’ve missed him so much.
