Capital One closed Trump Organization accounts after AML probe

financeAug 1, 2026361,918

Capital One told a federal court that it closed accounts belonging to the Trump Organization in 2021 after an internal anti-money-laundering review flagged suspicious transaction patterns. The bank said the closures affected about 300 Trump-related accounts and followed months of analysis by its AML team. The Trump Organization and family members sued Capital One in March 2025, alleging the bank unlawfully shut their accounts for political reasons; Capital One responded in court filings seeking dismissal. Reuters noted this is the first time a bank has formally tied money-laundering concerns to President Donald Trump’s family business. A Miami federal judge previously dismissed two complaints but allowed the plaintiffs to file amended versions, so further litigation and discovery are expected.
