Dodgers acquire Tarik Skubal from Tigers

sportsAug 2, 20261263,086

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired ace left-hander Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers in a trade finalized late Saturday ahead of the MLB trade deadline. The Dodgers sent prospects Zyhir Hope, River Ryan and Brady Smith to Detroit as the primary return. Skubal, long viewed as the top pitching target at the deadline, will join a Dodgers rotation already positioned to chase a third straight World Series. Skubal is owed roughly $32 million this season and the Dodgers will be on the hook for about $9.8 million of that for the remainder of 2026, a move that pushes Los Angeles deeper into luxury-tax territory and into a 110 percent surtax band for multi-repeat tax payers. Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said the club “had one guy in mind” and did not extensively pursue other starters. The team plans to start Skubal Tuesday in Chicago.

The Dodgers didn't cheat to get Skubal. Everything they've done is by regulation. They play to win. People are angry at them because the chickenshit owners of their teams don't play to win, too. So whiny. Either play to win, or shut up.

Based on MLB Pipeline rankings, the Dodgers gave up only their 5th, 7th, and 17th best prospects for Skubal. Plus, they'll pay him roughly $11 million. Other teams were gutless, that's all it is.

I don’t mind that the Dodgers got Skubal. Paid a decent price, but other teams could have matched and taken on his deal. It’s a choice not to do it. Dodgers are good on-field villains, but the real villains in baseball are owners who rake in cash but cry “small market!” when it’s time to spend.

Man, if you're the Brewers I don't know how you don't top that Dodgers offer for Skubal.
