River Ryan assigned to Triple-A Toledo with hamstring injury

River Ryan might be the most divisive prospect included in a big trade I can remember in forever. I've got people telling me that he could start playoff games this year, and also people who think he'll turn 73 before the season is over.

This is where I’m at. River Ryan is like 30 years, and Hope is solid but top 25 prospect. If Mason Miller landed a top 10 prospect, why didn’t Tarik Skubal? It’s only Saturday. They could’ve gotten more if they waited. I don’t get it

The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired two-time Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for outfielder Zyhir Hope and right-handed pitchers River Ryan and Brady Smith.

Trade is now official. River Ryan assigned to Triple-A Toledo and placed on IL while he recovers from hamstring injury. Zyhir Hope assigned to Double-A Erie. Brady Smith assigned to High-A West Michigan.

Now that the trade is official: New Tigers pitcher River Ryan will report to Triple-A Toledo. New Tigers outfielder Zyhir Hope will report to Class AA Erie. New Tigers outfielder Brady Smith will report to Class A West Michigan. New Dodgers pitcher Tarik Skubal will report to LA

The really funny thing is going to be when the Tigers get a strong second half from River Ryan and take a wildcard spot anyway because lol American League

River Ryan is less than two years younger than Tarik Skubal, and he's two years older than Keider Montero. He's not the young prospect people seem to be expecting. Zyhir Hope and Brady Smith are the real kids in the trade - they are both 21.

River Ryan (Triple-A, on IL with hamstring strain), Zyhir Hope (Double-A) and Brady Smith (High-A) will remain at those same levels in the Tigers system, now at Toledo, Erie, and West Michigan, respectively. Ryan and Hope are in new leagues now, Smith remains in the Midwest League

Zyhir Hope is a really good prospect and River Ryan is presumably as MLB-ready as any pitching prospect in baseball could possible be (because he turns 28 in two weeks), so it’s a pretty good return, and also the Brewers could absolutely match that return and it’s stupid they didn’t.

Anyways my take after talking to a lot of team people last night and again this morning (I slept a few hours) is that Zyhir Hope, River Ryan, and Tarik Skubal are all wildly differently valued depending on your priors and model inputs so the trade is basically a complete kaleidoscope, eat Arby’s

Guys, help me out here. I keep looking at what we sent to Det for Skubal and can't help but think "that's it?" I like River Ryan a lot and Hope is a stud, but that (and Brady Smith) is all it took? I'm not crazy right?

Gifting them River Ryan for literally less than nothing and having him turn into Skubal is insane. He should not be allowed to do anything, but it’s too late for that. He should be forced to obtain as many assets as possible by selling as hard as he can and then he should be fired for cause.
