Ceddanne Rafaela homered for a third straight game and the Boston Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-4 on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep in Los Angeles. The sweep capped a seven-game West Coast trip in which Boston won both series against the Oakland A's and the Dodgers. The Red Sox have now won 23 of their last 26 games and 28 of their last 33, a run the Boston Barometer describes as a season-transforming stretch. Boston has been especially strong on the road, going 15-1 over its last 16 road games and posting the second-most road wins in the American League behind the New York Yankees. The Barometer notes Boston recently swept several of the league’s top clubs, including the defending World Series champion Dodgers, and argues that baseball operations chief Craig Breslow should be willing to make meaningful additions at the trade deadline to push the club toward contention. With less than 24 hours before the trade deadline, the sweep leaves the Red Sox positioned for roster moves and bolsters their push in the AL East.
