Yankees finalizing deal to acquire Heliot Ramos from Giants

The New York Yankees are finalizing a trade to acquire outfielder Heliot Ramos from the San Francisco Giants, sending prospects Henry Lalane and Kaeden Kent to San Francisco. Lalane is the Yankees’ No. 5 prospect on MLB Pipeline, a 22-year-old 6-foot-7 lefty with a 2.77 ERA in three starts for High-A Hudson Valley; Kent, 22 and the son of Hall of Famer Jeff Kent, is the Yankees’ No. 13 prospect and is hitting .302 in 76 games for Hudson Valley. Ramos, who turns 27 in September, was the Giants’ 19th overall pick in 2017, made the 2024 National League All-Star team, and is under team control through the 2029 season with free agency not arriving until 2030. This season Ramos has a .835 OPS against left-handed pitching in 70 plate appearances and a career .847 OPS versus lefties, making him a right-handed platoon option while Cody Bellinger is sidelined with a left hamstring strain. Ramos is noted for power, including being the only right-handed hitter to clear McCovey Cove on the fly, but has defensive limitations and has been more effective against lefties, which helps explain the Giants’ willingness to trade him. The Yankees may platoon Ramos with a lefty hitter such as Spencer Jones or Jasson Domínguez, and the club has not yet announced who will be optioned to make roster space.

there’s probably gonna be more from me on this as the day goes on but heliot ramos was my favorite giants player, someone who i enjoyed watching year in and year out. he was always exciting, accountable, soft spoken, and down to earth. never complained. always worked hard. i will miss him dearly.
