Yankees finalizing deal to acquire Heliot Ramos from Giants

The New York Yankees are finalizing a trade to acquire outfielder Heliot Ramos from the San Francisco Giants just before Monday’s trade deadline. The Yankees are sending two prospects, pitcher Henry Lalane and shortstop Kaeden Kent, to the Giants; Lalane is the Yankees’ No. 5 prospect on MLB Pipeline, a 22-year-old 6-foot-7 lefty with a 2.77 ERA in three High-A starts, and Kent, 22 and the son of Hall of Famer Jeff Kent, is hitting .302 in 76 games for Hudson Valley. Ramos, who turns 27 in September, was the Giants’ 19th overall pick in 2017, made the 2024 All-Star team, and remains under team control through 2029 with arbitration starting next season. Ramos has a .835 OPS versus left-handed pitching this season in 70 plate appearances and a .847 career OPS against lefties, giving the Yankees the right-handed bat they sought at the deadline after acquiring lefty-hitting first baseman/DH Luis García Jr. Ramos said he is "very happy to be a New York Yankee" to reporters in Texas. The Yankees plan to platoon Ramos against left-handed pitchers, likely pairing him with Spencer Jones or Jasson Domínguez, and a corresponding roster move would probably be one of those two players being optioned or sent down. The Giants traded Ramos because defensive limitations and his struggles versus right-handed pitching made him more expendable as they prepare for returning players such as Victor Bericoto.

there’s probably gonna be more from me on this as the day goes on but heliot ramos was my favorite giants player, someone who i enjoyed watching year in and year out. he was always exciting, accountable, soft spoken, and down to earth. never complained. always worked hard. i will miss him dearly.
