Dodgers reacquire Ben Rortvedt from Mets

The Los Angeles Dodgers reacquired catcher Ben Rortvedt from the New York Mets in exchange for right-hander Chayce McDermott, a league source confirmed. Rortvedt is a familiar face for Los Angeles after the Dodgers originally acquired him from the Tampa Bay Rays at the 2025 deadline, a deal that also included reliever Paul Gervase and pitching prospect Adam Serwinowski. The return provides catching depth as Dalton Rushing was scratched from Sunday’s lineup with arm irritation and is day to day, and Will Smith remains on the injured list with an inflamed neck disc but could be available by September. The Dodgers do not have to add Rortvedt to their 40-man roster immediately, and rookie Eliezer Alfonzo Jr. is currently the only other catcher on the 40-man. Club officials expect Rortvedt’s previous experience with Los Angeles will shorten any adjustment to the pitching staff this time around.
