Paddy Holden2In a vacuum this makes sense. I’m guessing the pick from the QO is more valuable than what they were offered. But given Ward was traded for value not any better than a QO, and the whole Adley thing, the only way this makes sense is if they extend him.
I think too many of y'all are sleeping on Adley Rutschman. Injuries are a concern, but he's a good defensive catcher with an above-average bat. Projections have him at a little over 4 WAR per 600 PAs. He can be not as good as you remember him and still be very good.
buddytheelf.bsky.social1It’s a valuable player but it’s also just a rare commodity. There is always another bat or another pitcher available (unless you’re talking about Skubal-quality). There aren’t 30 4-WAR catchers. And at any given deadline/offseason, there is typically 0-1 guys line that available.
