A24 released the full trailer and poster for Primetime, in which Robert Pattinson produces and stars as To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen; the film premieres in competition at the Venice Film Festival and opens in U.S. theaters September 25, 2026. The trailer frames Primetime as a psychological thriller that revisits the dark corners of 2000s television and follows Hansen during the run of NBC’s To Catch a Predator, a sting-based series that aired from 2004 to 2007. The cast includes Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, musician Phoebe Bridgers, Matthew Maher, and Bokeem Woodbine, and the movie is the narrative feature debut of director Matt Oppenheim from a script by Ajon Singh. The article notes the show’s controversies, including repeated entrapment accusations, conflict of interest claims, and the 2006 Murphy, Texas sting that preceded Kaufman County assistant district attorney Bill Conradt’s suicide and a subsequent wrongful death suit that was settled out of court. To Catch a Predator was canceled by NBC by 2008; Hansen later hosted Hansen vs. Predator and Takedown with Chris Hansen, and the 2025 documentary Predators also examined the series and its imitators. Primetime positions itself amid that fraught history while the trailer highlights Pattinson’s Hansen celebrating the show’s potential mainstream reach, and the film opens the same day as Universal’s Forgotten Island and Paramount’s Heart of the Beast. After Primetime’s release, Pattinson is slated to appear as Scytale in Dune Part Three.

This shot in the trailer for Primetime is bringing me back. This would be fall 2006, my first year covering TV for IGN. This is when The CW launched, as shows like Supernatural (WB) and Veronica Mars (UPN) moved to their new home. But who the hell left the S off the end of Survivor: Cook Islands!?
