Today's 7.4 Mw earthquake in Colombia is the region's largest earthquake below 50 km depth in the instrumental record. The second largest, a 7.3 Mw earthquake around 300 km south of today's earthquake, was 70 km deeper and had a lower reported intensity as a result.
