Leagues Cup, Tigres beat Vancouver on penalties

Tigres UANL advanced after a 1-1 draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps, winning the penalty shootout after seven rounds. Rodrigo Aguirre opened the scoring in the 18th minute, running off Mathías Laborda to finish past Isaac Boehmer. Emmanuel Sabbi equalized in the 80th minute with a chest control and volley off the underside of the crossbar. Tigres received two straight red cards late: Diego Lainez was sent off in the 88th minute for speaking to the referee, and keeper Nahuel Guzmán was given a straight red after shoving the referee during a free kick. Vancouver keeper Isaac Boehmer made two big saves in the shootout to force extra rounds, but Tigres prevailed. The Whitecaps were awarded one point for the shootout loss, their only point in this Leagues Cup, and return to MLS play at Seattle Sounders on August 16 with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

Exactly the move I’ve been advocating #VWFC make since Berhalter left. Sad to see him leave #VFC, but this is pretty ideal. Emerick is a very vocal, very skilled and very passionate double pivot, with great vision. Plays the box-to-box double pivot role very well. I know what kit I’m buying next
