Disney Princess Night interrupts NWSL broadcast

moviesAug 17, 202625352

During Angel City FC versus Washington Spirit, Disney Princess Night spilled into the ESPN broadcast as frequent Disney Princess promotions and references interrupted play. Viewers singled out commentary lines like "paints the field with the colors of the wind," criticized a midgame interview that felt like promotion of Disney leadership, and noted halftime Princess performances were not shown on the feed. Some people pointed viewers toward the ESPN Deportes feed to avoid Princess commentary, while others called out the team ownership connection to Disney's former CEO as part of the reason for the heavy branding.

It’s the fact that ESPN/Disney is gonna do all this extraness on the broadcast and not show the halftime Disney Princess performances that has me fish grease hot

Would also be curious if Disney princess night magically landed on ion or cbs what the commentary would be like. Surely there would be a mention but not to this degree

PSA: the Angel City-Washington Spirit game is on ESPN Deportes. Y’all don’t have to suffer through Disney princess nonsense and racism to watch it.

Disney owns 20th century Fox so Ellen Ripley is technically the most likely Disney princess to support the NWSL. Yet not one little girl was dressed like this tonight. Sad.😔

Quoting this

idk how everyone else feels about NWSL announcers playing "how many references can I do?" during games but I have long felt like it's hugely disrespectful to the actual soccer

Do NOT make this a drinking game we can’t have anyone getting alcohol poisoning

I’m sure Disney Princess Night seemed like a great idea and I’m sure it was fun but oh my gosh all of the forced Disney references in the commentary is the absolute worst. So cringeworthy and I say that as a Disney person.

Okay, taking a moment away from posting because Disney Princess: The Ultimate Concert Celebration just landed on Disney Plus, and I am NOT going to miss out on seeing any of these women, especially Auliʻi Cravalho, Catherine Laga'aia, Halle Bailey, Jodi Benson, and Susan Egan sing, damn it!

With an owner. An owner whose husband was CEO of Disney until earlier this year. When your team is hosting a Disney princess night.

⚽ This ESPN broadcast of NWSL Angel City FC vs Washington Spirit is absurd. What do you mean they're going to cut away from the action mid-game to do an interview sports-washing the Disney CEO for Princess Night™️ "Engage with our players and engage in our merch" No. Ban mid-game interviews!
