Four-time world champion Max Verstappen, 28, has signed a contract extension with Red Bull Racing that keeps him at the team until the end of 2030. The deal removes near-term uncertainty after he had been linked with moves to Mercedes or McLaren and follows an existing contract that ran to 2028 with clauses that could have allowed him to leave this season. Red Bull have struggled under the new technical regulations this year; Verstappen’s best results so far are two second places in the Austrian and Hungarian Grands Prix, and he finished two points behind Lando Norris in last season’s title fight after a dramatic comeback. Verstappen praised team principal Laurent Mekies and called the team a second family, saying he is excited to keep working to return Red Bull to the top. The extension comes despite trusted race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase signing to join McLaren by 2028. Mekies said retaining Verstappen is fantastic and credited Verstappen’s partnership with the team as transformational for Red Bull’s motorsport story.
