The Daily Beast published two intimate letters that Natalie Harp wrote to Donald Trump in 2023, and readers have likened their tone to the movie Fatal Attraction. In the letters Harp calls Trump her "Guardian and Protector in this Life," says she envies women "whose only job seems to be to talk with you and look pretty" and repeatedly describes herself as "unworthy" of him. Rolling Stone excerpted the letters as "deeply emotional and bizarre," and Michael Wolff previously wrote that people on the Trump campaign considered Harp an "unexploded bomb" and that the Secret Service worried she might be a threat. MSNBC Senior White House Reporter Vaughn Hillyard reported Harp spent more than a year without a security clearance despite working closely with Trump. Commentators quoted in coverage have called the letters disturbing and said Harp's apparent obsession raises concerns about who can influence the president; some posts urged she needs psychiatric care while others noted Harp announced an indefinite hiatus amid the negative coverage. Reporting so far centers on the letters' contents, past reporting about campaign concerns, and questions about Harp's access to Trump going forward.
