Aston Villa approach Club Brugge for Joel Ordonez

Aston Villa have made a formal approach to Club Brugge for 22-year-old Ecuador centre-back Joel Ordoñez as one of three options to replace Ezri Konsa, who joined Arsenal for £51 million plus add-ons. The Athletic reported on August 21 that Villa had long tracked Ordoñez but were unsure whether they would meet the fee given other squad priorities in attack. Villa previously had an £18 million bid plus add-ons for Taylor Harwood-Bellis rejected and sources say a permanent deal for Ordoñez would likely be more expensive than that offer. Ordoñez joined Club Brugge in August 2022 after coming through Deportivo Azogues and Independiente del Valle and has 20 caps for Ecuador, including three appearances at this summer’s World Cup. Villa begin their Premier League season away to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.
