Tim Curry, the English actor best known for playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, died on August 25 at age 80. Curry’s career also included the TV miniseries It, a starring role in the comedy Clue, voice work such as Freakazoid and appearances in video games including Red Alert, making him a cult favorite across film, TV and animation. Richard O’Brien, creator of Rocky Horror, posted a message about Curry via Curry’s son Linus, who made the Strange Journey documentary about the musical. Fans and local groups are already organizing memorial screenings and gatherings, including a Time Warp tribute in New York City and a planned gathering at the Plaza in Atlanta on Friday at 11 PM. In a 2025 interview Curry said Rocky Horror had “given a lot of people permission to be themselves,” a line supporters and outlets have cited in remembering his cultural impact.
