UEFA is preparing criminal legal proceedings in Switzerland against FIFA president Gianni Infantino over his now-scrapped plan to sell stakes in the World Cup and other competitions through a vehicle called FIFA Forward Enterprise. Documents seen by BBC Sport show UEFA has applied for access to evidence and files held by FIFA businesses, including in Florida, to use in those proceedings and labels Infantino's conduct as "criminal mismanagement." UEFA's filing says Infantino and a small circle sought to let private investors acquire a permanent financial interest in FIFA's commercial arm for $4.2bn, implying an enterprise value of about $20bn that UEFA says was neither independently valued nor auctioned. UEFA alleges the plan was pushed through at a hastily convened internal FIFA meeting where some officials had hours to sign off and that the proposed price was "fraudulently off-market" and to the detriment of FIFA and its members. Key European football figures met in Monaco before the Champions League draw and unanimously mandated UEFA's president and administration to pursue institutional, political and legal avenues to restore governance limits and pursue reform. UEFA says it may also pursue criminal proceedings against other FIFA officials and advisors and has applied to a US court to obtain documents from FIFA Americas and FWC2026 to support future Swiss claims.

That’s actually pretty clever, because if I remember correctly, former FIFA President Sepp Blatter was also weakened by U.S. legal proceedings to the point that he had to step down. In any case, he could no longer enter the U.S. without fearing arrest. 🙃
