FDA approves updated COVID vaccines for fall 2026
Despite the bloviating and sabotage attempts, Moderna’s updated COVID vaccine has been approved by the FDA. Despite the fact that it theoretically requires one preexisting condition, the list of conditions is enormously broad also if you want to JUST LIE. Personally I’ve never had a pharmacist ask
You don’t need to tell me why you won’t lie I don’t really care. You can see I said “if you want to.”
My pharmacist asked last year which briefly made me panic, but he also handed me an extremely exhaustive list of preexisting conditions to pick from. When I said I had asthma, he then offered me both the RSV and pneumonia vaccines as well, which I didn't realise I qualified for! So I'm glad he did.
The power of Dolly compelled them.
I get a booster every 6 months. Everyone should. Lie if you are asked (a good one is I'm a former smoker, which I'm not). My last 2 boosters have been the Novavax, and I have to say, it's damn good. I mask on transportation. Dine outdoors. And my last infection was August 2024.
Last year I had mine ask “any you want me to check or…?” And I told him dealer’s choice. He was laughing as he asked.
My pharmacist has literally never asked. That's how you know you have a good pharmacist. They will just give you your covid shot and charge it to the government.
Worked at a pharmacy. We don't check. I once had a patient who was really struggling with the morality of lying. I asked him if he had a cigarette before and he said yes. Still counts as a preexisting condition. How the hell would I check that anyway. Get your vax.
If you are someone who claims to be an ally to the disabled, or claims to be a progressive or a socialist, or claims to care about people other then yourself and you aren’t regularly getting Covid boosters then you’re not any of those fucking things.
Sincerely: your preexisting condition is being a human who wants to limit the damage COVID can do to you. It is SO broad, you may actually have a preexisting condition. Just say yes. Please. We want you to be safe.
BMI is a pretty bullshit measure of health. But in this one instance, 43% of Americans can just breeze on into their preferred vax provider and not even lie about a qualifying 'condition'
Put Dolly's vaccine in your arm
Uptake of the Covid vax remains dismally low. The pharmacies want to sell it to you. You will not be stealing the vaccine from anyone. Pre-existing conditions include depression, anxiety, ADHD, asthma, high blood pressure and being overweight.
CVS has a sign that says it’s free without any disclaimers so stick the needle in my arm tysm
Just say yes when asked. No pharmacist cares enough as they don’t want a 10-minute health history dump and they have no consequence for believing us.
When you can get your shot, get your shot.
I get my Covid shot every year. I’ve never been asked to prove my need for the vaccine. I also get my flu shot. I still wear an N95 mask. I protect myself AND others. Mask also protects against wildfire smoke. As Erin said earlier, either you care about others, or you don’t. Simple acts.
The FDA approved the 2026-2027 COVID vaccines today. This year, it is again my aim to provide you with actionable guidance, as soon as a clear enough picture emerges for me to be able to do so. Unless it's medically contraindicated, I want you to get this updated vaccine to protect against COVID.
FWIW, CVS let me schedule it today here in MA, no questions asked, appointments available starting September 4.
Florida has made it nearly impossible to get this vaccine as an uninsured low income person who actually really needs to be getting it but can't 😞
The good news: this year's COVID vaccines have been approved. The bad news: thanks to RFK Jr. / GOP antivax fuckery, it'll be a pain in the ass getting yours—and getting it covered by insurance—if you're not over 65.
So far, insurers have been very good about simply ignoring Trump administration vaccine recommendations.
Important PSA: the list of health conditions that can qualify you for it is quite long encompassing conditions many Americans have and and also many pharmacies don’t fact check your form.
They did it last year too. I had to get my cardiac doctor to prescribe it for me because I was only 64 and didn't qualify for it. It really sucks the way they are preventing people from getting it. Could be why covid is on the rise again.
Any idea how much they'll cost paying out of pocket?
One of those rare times I'm glad I'm over 65
They kinda did this last year but they had a long enough list of underlying conditions that most people would qualify so I ended up getting it without any trouble. Hopefully it’s the same this year
Exciting news - I updated today's post on the summer surge in #Covid to reflect that all 3 new vaccines received FDA approval today--Moderna, Pfizer, and Novavax-Sanofi. www.forbes.com/sites/judyst...
Covid is not over. Covid is airborne. Covid is still killing and disabling. The government pushed a “back to normal” narrative to protect the economy, not people’s lives. A layered approach works best! Boosters, respirator masks, clean air and staying home when sick can all reduce transmission.
*releases a breath she didn’t know she was holding*
@drjudystone.bsky.social is one of my go-to journalists still covering Covid. As we ride this summer wave, it’s worth reading her latest about and treatments in 2026, even if you’ve never dropped precautions.
Good news esp for Novavax! Anyone looking for alternative for M/R/na ones, Novavax is protein based which can give less post sho/t symptoms. Mod/erna hits me hard but Novavax was smooth sailing (along with allergy meds before shot). CVS & Costco I know supplied in past & hope they will this fall.
this is really interesting, i didn't know nasal spray helped tho i do think zyrtec is cetirizine not loratidine?
Honor Dolly by getting your shots! Wear KN95 or better in public spaces! Covid isn’t over! Covid is still killing and disabling people every single day!
Full of smart advice… sprays, antivirals, info on vaxes, data diacrepancies, no need to raw dog… there are new tools out there.
“As was the case last year, the F.D.A. approved the shots for all people 65 and older, as well as for younger people who have a condition that increases their risk of severe illness from Covid. The Moderna shot is approved for ages 6 months and older; the Pfizer shot for ages 5 years and older”
“About 30 percent to 60 percent of Americans have a qualifying condition, F.D.A. officials estimated last year. Aside from age, a long list of factors can increase the risk of severe illness. They include asthma, diabetes, obesity, physical inactivity and pregnancy, as well as cancer”
Thanks for posting this. Was wondering if they were even going to release one considering.
