A near total lunar eclipse, called a "blood moon," was visible across large swathes of North and South America on Thursday night. At maximum, Earth’s shadow darkened about 96 percent of the full moon, giving the lunar surface a reddish tint as sunlight is scattered by Earth’s atmosphere. The event began around 9:23 p.m. Eastern Time and peaked near 10:33 p.m. Eastern Time, with millions of people expected to see the spectacle. The full moon coincided with the March "worm moon," and the eclipse was mainly visible in the Americas with limited visibility in parts of Europe and Africa. Earlier in the month, parts of Europe experienced a dramatic solar eclipse that briefly plunged some areas into daytime darkness.

Only have my iPhone, and I’m in Los Angeles, but the great thing about a lunar eclipse is that you can see it right through a bortle 9, and millions of people can enjoy it all at once around the country. Just captured these photos. It’s a great night to be outside!
