A Nevada jury on August 31, 2026, found Duane "Keffe D" Davis, 63, guilty of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon for orchestrating the September 7, 1996 drive-by killing of rapper Tupac Shakur. The 12-person jury unanimously returned the verdict after nearly three hours of deliberation following a nine-day trial that heard testimony from 24 prosecution witnesses and three defense witnesses. Prosecutors centered their case on Davis's own admissions in recorded conversations and his public statements and 2019 memoir, arguing those accounts placed him in a white Cadillac from which shots were fired; Chief Deputy District Attorney Binu Palal told jurors Davis consistently placed himself in that car. The state did not identify the shooter and said the three other men who were in the Cadillac have since died; under Nevada law Davis can be convicted even if he did not pull the trigger. Davis pleaded not guilty at trial, told the judge he plans to appeal, and several people in the courtroom reacted emotionally as the court adjourned. Prosecutors dismissed the gang enhancement from the charge due to witness logistics, and the conviction carries a potential sentence of life in prison without parole. The trial began on August 17 and prosecutors played hours of recordings in which Davis described procuring a gun, passing it to the back seat, and pursuing Shakur and Marion "Suge" Knight after an earlier altercation at a casino.

Maybe don't confess to being involved in a high-profile murder if you don't want to end up doing time for it. Unlike a lot of crimes, there's no statute of limitations on murder. They'll get you eventually if they can.

Tupac’s murder was an especially notable event in for us in HS as it happened in my hometown, and the mother of a close friend I grew up with in my class was the xray tech who xrayed his body at UMC hospital. never thought this would transpire and they’d actually bring someone to justice.
