New Heritage Minute video starring Rick Mercer
New Heritage Minute just dropped, starring Rick Mercer as the mayor of Gander, Newfoundland:
I WAS NOT EMOTIONALLY READY FOR THIS SO EARLY IN THE MORNING
This is timely and wonderful 💖 🇨🇦 I have missed Rick.
In an especially childish moment, I said to Sloth after I saw Come From Away, "Do you think if someone showed Trump this, his heart would grow three sizes" and he said at the moment that it happened, he was bragging that now he had the tallest tower in New York
Petrina Bromley, the Newfoundlander who originated Bonnie in Come From Away, plays an American in this one.
During Operation Yellow Ribbon, Canada rescued > 200 packed US commercial airliners in need of emergency haven on Sep 11. With its military airstrip, Gander (pop 12k) took in a disproportionate # of planes. Residents even hosted stranded passengers in their homes. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operati...
*laughs in trade war timing* anyways, go cry a little.
If you didn't know, this is my corner of Canada, about a 3.5 - 4 hour drive away from my city(depends on traffic, construction, pee/snack breaks). Very important that this drops now, before the 25th anniversary, while the Orange one forgets what it's like to care for others.
Give it a watch. There's some serious potential in reviving Heritage Minutes in an age dominated by short-form video.
I liked it but the thumbnail makes it look like it's a RMR/22 Minutes parody
There's some Albertan short-form video content creator who did a deep dive "takedown" of the corporation and originator of the concept for being MAGA aligned (maybe so) but the new ones are so multicultural, and highlighting women and LGBTQ people that I don't really but it
They had a great one last year about Bora Laskin, the first Jewish Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada.
