Anak Krakatau eruption halts flights at Jakarta airport
Krakatoa (Anak Krakatau) erupted overnight and is currently under an Alert Level III (Siaga/Alert) status.
Yikes!! I believe that was the one in the late 1800’s that killed thousands. Praying 🙏
The ‘child of Krakatoa’ erupted but scary nonetheless. The earth is pissed.
hmmmm we could use another mini ice age
The earth is speaking, Jack. I'm charging my hearing aids.
Really???? Fascinated by that volcano.
Mother Earth is speaking to all off us!!
So is Anak Krakatau still erupting? Apparently this is the biggest eruption anywhere in recent years. Will it disrupt air travel to Australia and S/E Asia?
Almost undoubtedly. Depends on how much the ash cloud intersects with the air corridors, of course. But I can't see it not having an impact.
Hopefully these "small" eruptions mean a big one is unlikely. Anak Krakatoa is a bit of a worry!
It was weird seeing the word "anak" out of context when I scrolled past this! "Anak" means 'child' in Tagalog (and in other Filipino languages) and Bahasa Indonesia (and in other Indonesian languages as well). Hopefully Krakatau's child will not harm anyone!
My daughter currently en route to Denpasar from Perth and flight is on schedule
The main airport in Jakarta, the Sukarno Hatta Airport is closed due to the ash moving northeast to Jakarta. Ash deposits are reported 50 km south of Jakarta in Bogor, West Java
All the air traffic has moved to the North and no-one seems to be flying into Jakarta.
