Page Six reported on Sept. 8 that ABC will not extend Jimmy Kimmel’s contract beyond May 2027, saying this season of Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be its last. ABC pushed back, with an ABC Entertainment spokesperson telling USA TODAY, "This information is inaccurate " and calling any reports about the show’s future speculative. Kimmel’s program returns for its 25th season with a premiere featuring Andrew Garfield and Joey King after the host’s July-August summer break, when Guillermo Rodriguez and guest hosts including Rosie O'Donnell, Colman Domingo, Jelly Roll, Anthony Anderson, Tiffany Haddish and Ike Barinholtz filled in. Jimmy Kimmel Live! is up for six Emmy trophies that will be awarded Sept. 14. Kimmel launched the show on Jan. 26, 2003, and in recent years the program has drawn controversy, including an April denouncement by the Trumps and a September 2025 production hiatus after FCC Chair Brendan Carr criticized Kimmel’s monologue about reactions to Charlie Kirk’s killing. While accepting a Peabody Award in May, Kimmel defended satire and free speech, saying, "We have the right, guaranteed by the Constitution, to criticize and satirize our leaders."
