TCM’s TCMParty lineup includes The Mark of Zorro as part of a monthlong Swashbucklers spotlight running Tuesdays in September that presents 38 films. The series frames swashbucklers as a cinematic action-adventure subgenre rooted in 19th century European literature and explains the term as a fusion of the archaic words “swash” and “buckler.” TCM says the showcase emphasizes dashing, sword-fighting heroes, rooftop and deck-bound stuntwork, and romantic daring that made the films crowd pleasers. The program opens with two of Errol Flynn’s best, including The Adventures of Robin Hood from 1938, and highlights Flynn’s earlier breakthrough in Captain Blood from 1935. TCM lists the full set as 38 pictures in the weekly series and instructs viewers to check the schedule for showtimes.
