Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone, at the company’s “Surprise and Shine” event on its Cupertino campus. The passport-size Duo opens like a passport to a larger, thinnest-yet phone display and is positioned as the largest iPhone screen when opened. John Ternus, Apple’s new chief executive who took over on 1 September, said the Duo “brings an entirely new design while preserving everything you love from an iPhone.” Apple set the starting price at $1,999 and said the phone will be available on 23 October, with preorders beginning 16 October. The rollout follows years of internal prototype testing that Bloomberg reported began in early 2021 and represents the first big product test for Ternus. Apple emphasized AI features across its new devices at the event and showcased other announcements, including the iPhone 18 lineup and upgrades to AirPods and Apple Watch.
