Pentagon backlash against Pete Hegseth

Politico reported that House Democrats are plotting an aggressive oversight "blitz" and may pursue impeachment of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth if they retake the House in November. Rep. Pat Ryan (D-NY) warned "Hegseth and crew better buckle up and lawyer up because we are coming at them full on," and Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), who would lead the House Oversight Committee if Democrats flip the chamber, said "Hegseth should not be in office." Democrats point to Hegseth’s handling of the Iran war, accusations of war crimes, and alleged purges of military officers as grounds for scrutiny, and Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) called for accountability tied to troop safety and resources. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has not endorsed impeachment, the report noted. Pentagon spokesperson Kingsley Wilson defended Hegseth as "a transformative leader" and said the department is unified behind his vision. If Democrats win the House, they plan public inquiries and could open impeachment proceedings and oversight investigations led by committee chairs such as Garcia.
