U.S. diesel prices top $6 a gallon for the first time

financeSep 11, 2026917,880

The U.S. average retail price of diesel topped 6.00 a gallon for the first time ever, the nationwide average reported by AAA as of Friday. Diesel has jumped 14 percent in the past month and more than 60 percent over the past year, the Wall Street Journal reported. Energy analysts point to surging U.S. diesel exports and supply disruptions tied to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries as drivers of higher refined-product prices. Gasoline is rising alongside diesel; AAA put the national average for a gallon of regular at 4.295, up more than 40 percent since the Iran war began. The price spike increases the risk of further energy-driven inflation just ahead of peak demand season and raises costs for trucking, freight, and other diesel-intensive industries.

This is particularly harmful in rural Alaska, where the incidence of diesel trucks and machinery is much higher than in most cities. A bunch of my friends' fishermen dads had diesel trucks growing up. I honestly think that Sullivan is going to lose, and Iran-War-driven fuel price increases are why.

My home state of Oklahoma is cattle country. Ranchers buy diesel 1000 gallons at a time. They're gonna be miffed about this.

Deja vu? You’re paying another all-time high record at the gas pump. This all could’ve been avoided if the president didn’t get us into a full-blown illegal war.

My wife just filled up our car, and she reported that gas is now $3.99, which is up from about $3.85 a week ago. Evidently Trump's constant bragging and whining at his "convention" did nothing to convince domestic gas suppliers that the war he started with Iran will soon be over.

High diesel prices are likely to have an indirect impact on American consumers by raising the cost of things like agriculture, construction and transportation.

Trump supporter whining about high diesel fuel prices: “Sometimes I think it would’ve been better to let Iran have a nuke, because they were just going to hit New York anyway. We don’t need New York.”
