Jackson, Mississippi police arrested 51-year-old Jarques Ratliff on Friday and charged him with murder in the death of 29-year-old Tasia Fortune after the state medical examiner ruled her death a homicide. Fortune was found on August 3 in a hanging position behind an abandoned house, with her body showing various states of decomposition, Chief RaShall Brackney said. Brackney said investigators secured two search warrants and an arrest warrant, attempted to serve a search warrant at a location where they could not find Ratliff, then arrested him walking along a city street after returning to police headquarters. Jackson investigators have interviewed nearly 15 people, collected forensic evidence and followed leads, and the chief said the arrest is an important development but not the conclusion of the probe. Brackney said Ratliff had an association with Fortune but declined to provide further details. The chief said more arrest warrants could be served and that the homicide investigation remains active.
