Brett Bateman hits first MLB home run for Blue Jays

Rookie Brett Bateman hit his first major league home run, a two-run shot in the ninth inning off Alex Hoppe that cut Baltimore’s lead to 7-4. The blast came with two outs and drove in Ernie Clement as well. Statcast measured the home run at 403 feet with a 100.2 mph exit velocity and a 26 degree launch angle. A sample report noted those were the first earned runs charged to Hoppe in 15 games for Baltimore. The homer provided late excitement but Toronto ultimately lost 7-4, dropping the Blue Jays to 73-75 on the season.

The highest praise I can give Kazuma Okamoto is that he's set the #BlueJays single-season strikeout record (171), and I just... don't care. His power is so necessary to this lineup, now with 31 homers. Such an impressive year, considering all he's adapted to. What a signing.
