Dario Amodei calls for slowing AI development
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei: "My view here is it has always been very strange that this technology is being built by a private company ... I think the government and the public needs to have a stake. And that's why we've supported regulation."
"I think the government and the public needs to have a stake" = "this bubble is going to pop and if I don't get bought out I'll be ruined"
Oh god he’s jumping ship
Also Amodei, "lets set it up so the government has to bail us out when the bubble bursts."
A government stake? so like a bailout?
He's run out of venture capital money and now he needs public money.
Dario Amodei is a con artist. He is running a wildly unprofitable extended confidence game in which he plays for venture capital and taxpayer dollars to boost his money-burning bullshit-machine company. Anthropic is not a viable business. It's a creaking carcass at the center of an AI bubble.
They are in so deep they don't know what's true. They are begging us to stop them.
"the public needs to have a stake" taxpayer dollars are so clearly the direction of travel here
"needs to have a stake". You mean... an equity stake? I'm pretty sure that is actually a surreptitious reference to an equity stake...
already asking for a bailout, sounds like
I volunteer to regulate Anthropic by spending an hour there and concluding that it's a fancy mathematical trick that has no more chance of becoming sentient than a magic eightball.
They want a government bail-out.
Nationalize the shit and be done I’m tired of a Manhattan project being done by private billionaires who will control the switches
These guys ignore that publicly funded academic research is responsible for much of the foundational knowledge that allows private companies to do this stuff.
the bailout talk is back
Poor Dario no agency, such a victim
The A.I. risk conversation is now 'companies need to slow down because Terminator is around the corner.' But there is another way of looking at it, which is that they built unpredictable & insecure software which first hacked people's minds & now online infrastructure www.nytimes.com/2026/09/12/t...
Why does the cynic in me think this is all related to the upcoming IPOs?
I firmly believe we’re much closer to AI draining people’s bank accounts without authoritzation than we are to terminator Now that would be a good terminator parody. Humans ready for weapon based war when in actuality? Skynet just ruins people’s lives
I would add that the companies hacked people's minds (hype/marketing/FOMO) before the technology did (AI psychosis). Had genAI not been so vastly oversold, it wouldn't have the reach with which to cause so much damage.
Only take Amodei, Altman and Musk seriously if they pledge to abandon their IPOs. Otherwise, they're just performance artists.
"the smarter we make our crime machine the more crimes it does. weird!" -dario, probably
Do you see them acknowledging it? Definitely totally became drunk on own power and success while forgetting need for proper design and implementation. Their products have become ubiquitous. Not tested under those circumstances. No guardrails. Sam Altman now found excuse to delay floating OpenAI.
TRUMP dismisses clamor for AI regulation or slowdown, per pool: “We can put guardrails, and we can do this and that, but I think you have a lot of negative forces that are bringing it up and they're bringing up things that won't happen.”
TRUMP was responding to whether the AI sector should be regulated or slowed down, as advocated by Anthropic’s Dario Amodei. “Whoever wins with AI wins,” Trump added
Proving that Trump's an idiot.
Clueless. I’m trying to talk “clean” because it’s Sunday. “Things” are being “brought up” because THEY ARE HAPPENING.
What went rogue on them ? AI leaders endorse slowdown in their risky technology Dario Amodei, who was the first to call for restraint on Saturday, warned that recent advances have begun to outpace the industry’s ability to fully understand & control the technology. www.politico.com/news/2026/09...
They won't, unless there is a framework of regulation and severe personal and corporate penalties attached. They are no more able to control themselves than the machines they build are.
The biggest risk seems to be a global financial collapse due to a speculative bubble popping. All in the search for a better spell check.
