National Hispanic Heritage Month runs in the United States from September 15 to October 15 to recognize the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. MRFF board member John Compere provided historical context for the month in a National Hispanic Heritage Month piece. The National Museum of the American Latino is highlighting the month with resources explaining why and how to observe the celebration. Local organizations and officials marked the start with events and messages naming places such as the National Hispanic Cultural Center in New Mexico, the People’s House honoring Latino North Carolinians, and statements from officials in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Wisconsin, Central Florida, the Hudson Valley, and New Jersey’s 07 district. Posts and proclamations emphasize cultural contributions across law, medicine, the arts, science, politics, and sports, and urge support for Latino communities during the month and beyond. The month’s observances include public programs, community celebrations, and educational materials coordinated by museums and civic institutions.
