Ethan Salas, 20 years and 107 days old, hit his first Major League home run for the San Diego Padres, a 426-foot shot to center off Colorado Rockies reliever Mason Adams. The ball left the bat at 105.8 mph with a 33 degree launch angle and put San Diego up 3-1 in the top of the second inning. MLB.com reported that Salas became the youngest backstop in 35 years to go deep. Salas later homered again in the same game, making him the youngest catcher since at least 1900 to hit two homers in a single game, and his big-league career line now includes a triple and two home runs among three hits.
