Qualcomm unveiled two flagship mobile platforms, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, built on a 2nm process and featuring 64-bit Oryon CPU cores clocked up to 5.0 GHz. Both chips pair two Prime Oryon cores at up to 5.0 GHz with six Performance cores up to 4.0 GHz, include 16 MB of Oryon FlexCache, support up to 24 GB LPDDR5X/6 at 5,300 MHz and UFS 5.0 storage, and add new Adreno GPUs and reworked Hexagon NPUs. Qualcomm claims the Extreme delivers 13% higher CPU performance, 37% better CPU power efficiency, 44% higher GPU performance, 35% improved NPU performance and 33% better AI performance per watt versus the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while the standard Gen 6 lists 10% CPU gains, 37% better CPU power efficiency, 35% GPU gains and 20% AI performance per watt improvement versus Gen 5. Video capabilities are upgraded: the Extreme supports 8K recording at 60 fps and 4K slow motion at 240 fps, while the standard Gen 6 supports 8K at 30 fps and 4K slow motion at 120 fps. Xiaomi 18 Pro is scheduled to be the first phone to ship with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6; Motorola confirmed the Signature 27 will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and OnePlus has confirmed the Extreme for the OnePlus 16. Early benchmark reports show the Extreme posting strong scores and running in a close race with Apple’s A20 Pro in initial tests.
