Dan Wilson won't return as Seattle Mariners manager; Rick Rizzs retires

The Seattle Mariners announced Sunday that Dan Wilson will not return as the club’s field manager in 2027. The decision follows a disappointing season in which Seattle fell short of expectations. In the season finale on September 27, 2026 the Mariners beat the Los Angeles Angels 7-3 at T-Mobile Park. Longtime Mariners radio broadcaster Rick Rizzs closed his career at that game, delivering a tearful farewell speech on the field as current players and former Mariner Taylor Saucedo remained to listen. MLB uploaded the top of the ninth inning and Rizzs’ postgame remarks to YouTube. Rizzs told the crowd, I have over 40,000 of my friends here, a line commenters quoted while noting the emotional sendoff. The Mariners now face a managerial search for 2027 while the club transitions its broadcast booth after Rizzs’ retirement.

My youngest used to play Backyard Baseball on the computer & narrate it “Good bye Baseball!” Baseball is about the stories over 162 games, we’ve had 2 of the best storytellers here in Seattle. I think it’s funny that Dan Wilson told Jerry Dipoto not to fire Bobby Magallanes, he did it anyway, the players were annoyed, and the team almost instantly starting losing and never stopped. The golden touch.
