Gianni Infantino hints at larger cash pledge to FIFA members

FIFA president Gianni Infantino told the six continental confederations in a letter that a greater cash pledge could be distributed to member associations from FIFA's estimated £4.4bn cash reserves and that he would support "the greatest level of additional funding that can responsibly be delivered." UEFA and Concacaf have demanded FIFA pay $10m to each of the 211 members from those reserves, a proposal the FIFA Council will consider when it meets on 15 October. Infantino said he "will not prejudge the amount" and that a single figure can start discussions but cannot complete a global policy. The letter comes after Infantino faced a major backlash over his aborted FIFA Forward Enterprise plan, which proposed selling stakes in the World Cup and other competitions to private investors. Infantino defended the withdrawn plan as intended to generate additional money for the game. Football Association chair and FIFA vice-president Debbie Hewitt has asked Infantino to release all documents on the plan and called for an independent review. Infantino is standing for a fourth term in March 2027, with potential challengers having until 18 November to declare.

Antigua's population is ~106,000; nearby St Kitts & Nevis - where GI also visited, gaining an endorsement from ex-MLSer Atiba Harris, now head of his homeland's FA - is even smaller: ~54,000. Each has the same # of votes in the FIFA Congress as, say, the US or Canada. Jamaica, T&T also endorsed.

He may still have >~50% of support from member federations, but I don't see a world where UEFA federations are so blatantly opposed to him and he keeps the position. European football (and the very real threats they have made) will topple even the strongest figure in world football.
