Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent rebukes Sen. Elizabeth Warren

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Oct. 9 replied to Sen. Elizabeth Warren's Oct. 7 letter with a sharply worded rebuke, calling her letter “further evidence of your complete lack of knowledge of financial markets” and urging her to study introductory economics. Warren had argued the “Big Beautiful Act” would add nearly $5 trillion to the deficit over the next decade and said the war with Iran has cost taxpayers about $43.6 billion so far, citing Pentagon estimates. Bessent accused Warren of supporting tax increases that raised ordinary Americans' burden by $5 trillion while touting Working Families tax cuts and cited IRS-era data that the average 2025 tax refund was $3,400, an 11 percent increase from the prior year. He mocked her academic background with an offer to provide a “fixed income tutorial for dummies” and concluded the letter with a handwritten “Happy Aboriginal Day in advance to you and your family” note that referenced her past ancestry controversy. The letter escalated the public dispute between the Treasury and Warren and prompted heated exchanges online about his tone and her policy claims.

What a shock. So it turns out Scott Bessent lied about everything during his confirmation hearing. Including this.
