After Graham Platner withdrew from Maine's Senate race in July following a rape allegation he denied, Democrats say enthusiasm for his late replacement, state Senator Troy Jackson, has flagged, the New York Times reports. With the race against fifth-term Republican Senator Susan Collins close, Jackson and his allies are still trying to re-energize voters after the summer switch. This weekend Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont traveled to Maine for a three-rally trip to boost Jackson and try to inject momentum into the campaign. Sanders is presented in reporting as a progressive leader popular across New England whose appearance aims to revive turnout and enthusiasm ahead of the final weeks of the contest.
