Apple TV 4K returns with A19 chip and hands‑free Siri

techOct 13, 202677193

Apple unveiled a redesigned Apple TV 4K powered by an A19 chip and integrated Siri AI, adding three far-field microphones so users can say Hey Siri without the remote. The set-top supports a 128 gigabyte storage tier, Wi Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6, and Apple says it can deliver a four-speaker surround experience when paired with HomePod mini 2 or HomePod 2 speakers. The Siri integration on Apple TV focuses on conversational content discovery, letting viewers ask questions like which shows won Emmys or where a series was filmed. The Siri Remote gets a small built-in speaker to play an audible tone for locating it, building on Apple’s prior Find My integration. Apple priced the new Apple TV 4K at $299, with preorders opening October 13 and shipping beginning November 13. Bloomberg reported that delays in the AI-powered Siri pushed Apple to shift the launch timing for new home devices.

The new Apple TV 4K is $299 United States dollars. Two hundred and ninety-nine United States dollars for an Apple TV.

Y'all tying yourselves into knots justifying these prices (or any tech prices right now for that matter) have lost the plot.

Shield TV Pro is $299 now and it was made in 2019.

Manuel1

Well, it's €349 (about $390) here in the EU 💙

The Nvidia shield that launched in October 2019 recently got a $100 price increase to $299 so all things considered ...

To each their own and people will buy what they will buy, but I’m missing the value proposition here.

I can't believe Apple finally launched a new Apple TV. But it's $299 / £299 😵 www.theverge.com/tech/1009663...

Yeah no thanks. I’ll keep my existing ones for that price. Maybe $199 I could’ve dealt with, but this is insane

EconReporter2

wait same price USD and GBP!?!?!?!

Anthony Shaw1

That’s a lot of money to watch Ted Lasso. Would be cheaper to get on a plane.

Jerome Čop1

$300? Yeah, I think I'll just stick with the Apple TV app on my Xbox.

kev1

So if I know where my remote is I don't need to buy this.

IIRC the year started with the Apple TV being just $129

$300 for the new Apple TV is insane. The cheapest previous-gen model, before the price increase, was $130. 🤯

"In the U.S., the new ‌Apple TV‌ is priced at $299." Okay then I'm going to hold onto my old one I guess. Sorry Apple, I was actually excited about this but you didn't really give me a reason to update at that price point.

What the hell? I actually need one for another TV and now I guess I’ll buy an old one

HomeView has a screen and speakers for the same price a18 in the homeview vs a19 in the new apple tv but seems off
