Xbox launches Xbox Labs to prototype AI ports and web builds

gamingOct 13, 202639170

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced Xbox Labs, a small internal group of game makers, engineers and scientists charged with turning emerging ideas into playable experiences. Sharma said recent experiments have seen games decompiled and rebuilt to run on hardware they were never designed for and ported into browsers via WebAssembly and WebGPU, the latter now approaching 90 percent global browser support. She noted coding became a primary workload for agents and stressed Xbox’s scale, citing players spending more than 72 billion hours a year on Xbox games. Sharma asked Scott to stand up Xbox Labs to prototype accessibility work such as AI-assisted ports, web builds and compatibility experiments, and to build in the open while measuring success by whether more people are playing and creating. Xbox said it will share the tools it develops with developers across the industry and that the Labs effort is intended to explore new technology without abandoning Xbox’s existing priorities, including the 4Cs and stewardship of IP.
